Most tourists know the beautiful Panorama Route and visit the spectacular vistas during their holiday in South Africa. And we agree: the viewpoints of the Blyde River Canyon, the largest green canyon in the world, are absolutely mind blowing. And the best thing is: Marepe Mountain View is directly located under Mariepskop, offering spectacular view.
Well of the beaten path but just as stunning is Mariepskop, possibly the best kept secret of the Panorama Route. At an altitude of 1,947 metres this mountain peak is one of the highest peaks of the Northern Drakensberg and off the tourist paths meaning you will have all the jaw dropping viewpoints all to yourself!
The route all the way up is an adventure on its own. Go slow and explore the unique flora, fauna and its many different vistas. There is a great picnic spot where you can swim in the river and along the way are several different walking trails through the fynbos and rainforest, some with a waterfall. The very top of Mariepskop offers views of the Blyde Canyon that are just incredible as ` the famous landmark of the Panorama Route.

The birdlife of Mariepskop is prolific with species you won’t find in the Kruger Park; Narina Trogon, Lemon Dove, Crowned Eagle, Knysna Lourie, Olive Woodpecker, Amethyst Sunbird, Peregrine Falcon, to name a few.
With 1,400 plant species, including endemic clivias, wild agapanthus, ferns and fire lily, this area is a real paradise for nature lovers.
A stay at Marepe Mountain View is not complete without a visit to Mariepskop.
